GUIDANCE and COUNSELLING PROGRAM

Goal:

In line with one of the institution’s goal which is to provide quality, sufficient and responsive services to enhance and sustain student’s holistic growth and development, the Guidance and Counselling Office will ensure that all students, regardless of their individual differences, acquire the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers, and lifelong learners.

Objectives:

          The office of the guidance and counselling aims to
1. Ensure the accessibility of guidance and counselling services to all students.
2. Provide the following: counselling, assessment, information, advice, educational development, personal and social development programs to all students.
3. Provide assistance to enable students to benefit from the curriculum, as well as helping them who exhibit attendance academic, behavioral and/or adjustment problems.
4. Encourage respect for individual strengths and needs and social and cultural diversity.
5. Help students understand themselves and build meaningful relationships with others.
6. Assist and guide students in planning and achieve educational goals and explore personal career paths.
7. Equip the students with the skills for a lifetime of learning, career self-management and social interaction.
8. Provide consultation and co-ordination services to educators, parents, administrators, and others who work with students.

CCI Guidance program will provide direction by assisting students to acquire knowledge, attitudes, strategies and skills in the following domains;

• Personal – to understand and appreciate oneself
• Social – to relate effectively to others
• Educational – to develop appropriate educational plans
• Career – to develop life and career plans

Guidance and Testing Program

This program focuses on the psychological and socio-emotional aspects of student’s formation. It seeks to journey with students in their personal, social, academic, and career development through comprehensive and developmental encounters, interventions, programs, activities, testing, counseling, interviews, and referrals.

It has four major components and services:

 1. Guidance Curriculum – can be through scheduled classes taught by classroom teachers and guidance officer- specific activities usually beyond the classroom setting. It includes the following;
a. Orientation of Students
b. Homeroom/Guidance Classes
c. Group Dynamics Sessions
d. Talks/Symposia

  2. Individual Planning – In collaboration with teachers, formators, and parents, students are assisted in planning, monitoring, and managing their own learning as well as their personal and career development through different services like;
a. Psychological Testing
b. Individual Inventory Record
c. Placement and Follow-up
d. Interview and Counseling

3. Responsive Service – This consists of activities designed to meet immediate needs of students that may require counseling, consultation, or referral. This service is a response to a student/parent-initiated request or a result of a referral from a teacher or a formation officer. It offers the following services;
a. Interview
b. Individual/Group Counseling
c. Career Counseling
d. Referral
e. Follow-up

4. Routine Interview – This involves activities that help establish, maintain, and enhance the implementation of a comprehensive Guidance Program. This requires collaboration and coordination or participation of the school administration, faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and other resources in the community. This includes the following;
a. Orientations
b. Conferences
c. Talks/Symposia
d. Professional Development (for Guidance and Testing Personnel)
e. Facility Improvement
