LIBERAL ARTS (AB) DEPARTMENT
The Liberal Arts (AB) Department offers the BACHELOR OF ARTS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE.
Departmental Goals
- Political science majors should be able to: Understand and use the methods that political scientists use to answer questions about politics. Use critical thinking and evidence to understand and evaluate rival theories and interpretations. Formulate and express in writing a well-organized argument, supported by evidence.
- Political Science program provides its students with excellent training in the discipline through instruction, research and internship.
- Political science program is a classical discipline that deals with the study of political phenomena. Its goal is to deepen human understanding of the forms and nature of political action and to develop theoretical tools for interpreting politically meaningful phenomena.
Objectives
The Liberal Art (AB) Department aims to
- Continue the general education started at the elementary level and carried through the secondary level;
- Students are allowed a maximum of two (2) probationary periods only. All probation periods are counted, even with intervals of semesters or years. An advice to shift to another program shall be given to students who failed to comply with the probationary requirements.
The same rules apply to all shifters and transferees.
- A student who is places on probation may be advised to shift to another program ever if he/she has not yet consumed the maximum of two (2) probationary periods on grounds deemed reasonable and justifiable by the Dean.
Retention Policy
Prospective second year students who wish to be retained in the program need to fulfill the following requirements:
- Must maintain a WPA of 78%;
- Must have no grade lower than 80 in their major subjects; otherwise they will repeat the major subjects.
Probation Policy
- Students who are placed on probation will be given a semestral load of 3 units less than the regular load. Additional unit deduction, however, shall be decided upon by the Dean depending on his/her overall appraisal of the student’s academic credentials/performance.
