INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

 

             The Information Technology (IT) Department offers two (2) degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) and Bachelor of Science in Information System (BSIS).

Objectives

The Information Technology Department aims to

  1. provide students a vigorous foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of information management;
    equip students with knowledge and skills in programming to be able to develop software for use in business and industry
  2. train students to learn and understand the different software applications to be able to know how to use them for their applications development;
  3. prepare students for their chosen career through exposure to real work environment and participation in outside activities/contests that would enhance the students’ knowledge and skills in information technology;
  4. make students aware of and appreciate the importance of ethics in the practice of the profession; and
  5. links with professional organizations for the purpose of designing more relevant curricular offerings.

 

Retention Policy

Prospective second year students who wish to be retained in the program need to fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Must maintain a WPA of 80%;
  2. Must have no grade lower than 80 in their major subjects for BSCS and 75 for BSIS; otherwise they will repeat the major subjects.

 

Probation Policy

  1. Students who are placed on probation will be given a semestral load of 3 units less than the regular load. Additional unit deduction, however, shall be decided upon by the Dean depending on his/her overall appraisal of the student’s academic credentials/performance.
  2. Students are allowed a maximum of two (2) probationary periods only. All probation periods are counted, even with intervals of semesters or years. An advice to shift to another program shall be given to students who failed to comply with the probationary requirements.

The same rules apply to all shifters and transferees.

  1. A student who is placed on probation may be advised to shift to another program even if he/she has not yet consumed the maximum of two (2) probationary periods on grounds deemed reasonable and justifiable by the Dean.
