EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
The Education Department offers Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED) major in English, Filipino, Mathematics and General Science. This department is responsible for the training of both secondary and elementary teachers.
Departmental Goals
- BACHELOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (BEED)
- The BEED degree program aims to develop and support innovative, exceptional and globally-minded educators through great values in life.
- Develop highly motivated and competent teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for elementary education.
- After successful completion of all academic requirements of the degree/program, graduates of BEED should be able to practice the teaching profession in the elementary level.
- BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (BSED)
- BSED education program is designed to equip learners with adequate and relevant competencies to teach in their chosen area of specialization/major in the secondary level.
- The BSED degree program aims to develop highly motivated and competent teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for secondary education.
- After successful completion of all academic requirements for the degree/program, graduates of BSED should be able to practice the teaching profession in the secondary level.
Objectives
The Education Department aims to
- Develop Basic school teachers who are generalists and who can teach across the different learning areas in the basic unit level;
- Provide education students with adequate professional development skills training useful in interpreting and applying teaching principles for classroom management and instruction effectiveness;
- Provide relevant and effective training for student competencies in instruction, research, and extension services and for production enhancement;
- Promote classroom and outside classroom activities necessary for the development of personal discipline, upright servant-leadership, and physical fitness which aid to strengthen community linkages and for nation building;
- Have the basic and higher literacy, communication, numeracy, critical thinking, learning skills needed for higher learning;
- Have a deep and thorough understanding of the learning processes and the role of the teacher in facilitating these processes in their students; and
- Apply a wide range of teaching skills, including curriculum development, lesson planning, materials development, education assessment, and teaching strategies.
Retention Policy
Prospective second year students who to be retained in the program need to fulfill the following requirements:
- Must maintain a WPA of 83%;
- Must have no grade lower than 80 in their major and professional subjects;
- First year and second year students must maintain a WPA of 83% and no grade below 80 in major and professional subjects; otherwise they will be advise to shift to another course;
- Third year and fourth year students must maintain a WPA of 83% and no grade below 80 in major and professional subjects; otherwise they will repeat the major and professional subject once the grade is below 80 and will be placed under probation.
Probation Policy
- Students who are placed on probation a will be given a semestral load of 3 units less than the regular load. Additional unit deduction, however, shall be decided upon by the dean depending on his/her overall appraisal of the students’ academic credentials/performance.
- Students are allowed a maximum of two (2) probationary periods only. All probation periods are counted, even with intervals of semesters or years. An advice to shift to another program shall be given to students who failed to comply with the probationary requirement (cf. a,iii,iv).
The same rules apply to all shifters and transferees.
- A student who is placed on probation may be advised to another program eve if he/she has not yet consumed the maximum of two (2) probationary periods on grounds deemed reasonable and justifiable by the dean.
